We gratefully acknowledge the guidance of Matua Mike Kawana, Rangatira of Rangitāne o Wairarapa, in announcing this directory’s beginning.
Tūhono is designed to connect health and related workforce staff with each other, and give our community a reliable place to find out “who does what” when looking for health services available in Wairarapa.
Most entries have a health and wellbeing focus in the very widest sense. We value the Māori wellbeing model, Te Whare Tapa Whā, developed by Sir Mason Durie in 1984. The model is represented by a whare with four walls to show how balance is important in all aspects of health that contribute to wellbeing, particularly for Māori.
The four sides of the whare are taha tinana (physical), taha wairua (spiritual), taha hinengaro (mental and emotional wellbeing), and taha whānau (family and social wellbeing). Health and wellbeing are grounded in whenua, the land, and all aspects of health are interconnected with te taiao, the natural world.
When all these things are in balance, people thrive. When one is out of balance, wellbeing is affected. Te Whare Tapa Whā has helped guide the way entries are listed and connected.
To place an entry
Services are very welcome to place an entry in Tūhono, but are required to keep their details up to date to stay entered in the directory. This keeps the directory relevant and useful for users.
To place an entry, contact the Trust’s Strategic Connector, Jo Baldwin on [email protected] or phone her on 020 452 3156.
Please note: All services entered in Tūhono must have a presence in Wairarapa and/or be available to local people. If you are unsure if this is the case with your service, please contact Jo.
Nga mihi,
